i was pleasantly surprised last night by how good everyone looked. usually there are a good dozen that obviously didn't look too close in the mirror before they left...not this year. while there are a few that make my worst dressed list, not all of them were completely horrific.
i've heard reactions from people today saying they thought anne and james were boring, but i LOVED them. i thought they did a fabulous job and kept me laughing and entertained.
now on to the important stuff.
BEST DRESSED:
halle berry looked stunning.
i know, when does she NOT look stunning?
she's back to her signature pixie cut
and from head to toe had a very beautiful look.
anne hathaway in her red carpet number.
i love love love this dress.
and what made it even better, for me, was her hair, make-up and jewelry.
everything was very elegant.
and her necklace was to die for.
while anne had a lot of wardrobe changes during the show,
this dress was hands down my fav.
hailee steinfeld was adorable.
very age appropriate and fresh.
melissa leo has made it on A LOT of worst dressed lists.
i, however, loved her look.
the dress was borderline granny,
but i think she managed to keep it interesting and beautiful.
i loved how different it was.
nancy o'dell chose a beautiful color.
while i didn't actually see her on the red carpet,
i found this pic while searching this morning and i love it.
the one shoulder look was very popular this year.
i love her earrings and bracelet, perfect touches.
"ALMOST THERE" LOOKS:
amy adams was thisclose to making my best dressed.
she had two things working against her.
1-the top of the dress. the sleeves were extremely unflattering.
2-the necklace ON TOP of the dress. blah. looked awful.
cate blanchet had amazing hair and make-up.
i don't usually think she's that pretty, but she looked beautiful.
i couldn't decide if i liked her dress while she was on the red carpet.
once she actually presented, however, i realized that it wasn't good.
great color, interesting lines, slightly quirky look, but just didn't quite make it.
nicole kidman looked great from the waist up.
her dress had these weird hip maximizer's on it
that made someone even as waif like as nicole,
look a little hippy.
and not in the peace, love and donny osmond kind of way.
hillary swank had a fun gown on.
the furry bottom thing has been done before,
but it was still cute.
what wasn't cute, however, was her lack of make-up, accessories or hair do.
she's already slightly man-ish as it is.
c'mon hil, next time glam it up.
it's the oscars for pete's sake.
WORST DRESS:
i didn't include any men in my best or almost looks.
frankly, most of them look the same.
it's a tux.
unless you really mess it up,
most of the men looked handsome.
most, but not all.
christian bale looked like he threw a tux on from the back
of his white, windowless van that was parked across
the street from an elementary school.
greasy hair? check.
grizzly adams beard? check.
all black stalker clothes? check.
creepy.
jennifer lawrence was a first timer, i think.
she was up for lead actress.
you would think she would want something classy and sophisticated.
not a baywatch one piece turned dress.
totally to casual for something like the oscars.
mark ruffalo looked fine.
his wife, sunshine, looked ridiculous.
listen sunshine, i know you are not up for any awards,
but if you're going to be the arm candy for someone that is,
don't make people want to break out their wilson phillips cassette tapes
reese witherspoon completely disappointed me.
it's not that she looked bad...just dated.
i see that same hair extension on women at walmart.
and i'm pretty sure my little sister wore that same dress
to her prom in 2001.
i guess i just expected more from you reese.
so let's hear it.
do you agree? disagree?
tweet. tweet.
